How do you handle sexual dimorphism in sangheili? How do females physically differ from males, if at all?
Females do differ from the males, but only by a little bit. Sangheili don’t have much in the way of sexual dimorphism and can be fairly difficult to tell the difference between the two sexes. Female Sangheili are generally described to be slimmer and slightly shorter than the males are.
Some more fun facts about Sangheili women;
Osoona within the Covenant were sometimes female due to their smaller frames. Osoona were basically spies and having a smaller/lighter frame would often give female Sangheili in the field an advantage. Osoona was also one of the very few positions in the Covenant that somewhat openly allowed Sangheili women to join the Covenant military (combat oriented positions specifically) as, previously, they were not allowed to. Female Sangheili were often left on their birth worlds where they rarely left planet side. They remained there to care for young, train them, care from the keep itself, manage politics and served as a last ditch effort defense system should their home worlds, like Sanghelios, ever experience an invasion. It wasn’t until Rtas ‘Vadum came across Tul ‘Juran in battle that Rtas decided to convince Thel ‘Vadam to allow women into the military of Swords of Sanghelios. Before this, outside of Osoona, Sangheili women in the military were an extreme rarity, even now they’re still a rather uncommon occurrence.
These images are the only canon visuals we have of a Sangheili woman, Tul ‘Juran, Scion of her keep. The other Elite in the images is Rtas and the other being is a San ‘Shyuum Prelate I forgot the name of. Tul ‘Juran and Rtas are to thank for Sangheili women getting slightly more recognition within their military ranks.
I’m also going to add that the depiction of a female Sangheili in Legends, while the story is canon, the art style absolutely is not and the Halo Online project was incredibly stylized and later, abandoned. But that project does depict both male and female options of Sangheili there too.

I don't know if it would be a good idea necessarily but if the Shadow of Intent chased the San Shyuum all the way to Zeta Halo it would be very funny to me.

(2021) Vurt Hant is a merchant after the Human Covenant War. He seems like a well intentioned San Shyuum trying to amend the sins of his species. He produces Huragoks for trade and has gained a fortune and support in the process.

Halo would’ve worked much better if the Forerunners were, as was implied by most of the first trilogy, ancient humans (I would say Homo habilis but that might just be “they build ringworlds” talking). Then, as my brother said, it would be less “Sangheili, San Shyuum, etc., just got screwed over in the specialness lottery”, and more “humans are the Reclaimers because they are the same actual thing as the Forerunners”.
Also you would avoid that “these entities were wicked because they dared to try to keep humanity from its manifest destiny” shit. Because honestly, all scifi humanism is just Anglo jingoism expanded to the whole species, with a Gnostic chaser. Fuck that shit with a damn cactus.
#salty science fiction writer#salty scifi writer#salty sf writer#things that ain't so#if you wonder why i say building ringworlds means they should be homo habilis you need to look up the two words 'pak protector'

Why was my first thought seeing therottenkingsreckoning's reblog was "(The Prophet of ) TRUTH (from Halo) emerging from the dirt to shame mankind" ?-
My mind immediately manifested the image of Prophet of Truth's long ass San 'Shyuum neck extending out the hole to lunge slurs at humans passing by-

Halo : Refuge - Zo Resken
Today (March 7th) is my birthday so I thought I’d celebrate it this year with some personal art of my interpretation of Zo Resken, the former Prophet of Clarity from the novel Halo: Broken Circle, as he is one of my favorite Halo characters.
Sadly, the book never gave much of a description for his appearance, nor his clothing. All I had to go on was his title as a Prophet and that he was described as “fairly young”, but since the San’Shyuum are my fav Halo alien species, I’ve nerded out on their lore and had a good idea of how to go about filling in the blanks along with my own personal preferences.
And this all started out because after finishing Halo: Infinite’s campaign, I was so impressed with the Forerunner architecture in the game, I wanted to create a neat background and figured Zo would be perfect to include to kick start me being back in a Halo mood again.
As mentioned before though, I’ve often been very hesitant to post a lot of my San’Shyuum art. I adore them, but most do not so I never felt like I had much reason to post to potentially only get hateful comments towards them/my artwork. I think I’ll be changing that bad habit moving forward, though.

Does anyone remember from the Halo wiki this one joke character who was one of the prophets but he was legitimately badass and went on ridiculously awesome adventures. There was also a grunt that was a joke character too that had a friend and they got into misadventures together. I remember seeing it in highschool when I was into Halo I don’t know if that’s still on the wiki nowadays.

So far not bad, Halo show. Some questionable decisions, one extremely questionable decision, but on the other hand we get to hear Mercy speaking San Shyuum (Sangheili has different phonology—though it’s not the formal register because formal San Shyuum is sung).

Another older sketch (size comparison test) from a small personal Halo related project I was messing with awhile ago.
The San’Shyuum (alien) is my interpretation of Zo Resken, a character I fell in love with from the book - Halo: Broken Circle.
